We are looking for an experienced Product Safety Material expert for new materials and biobased materials. The role is involved early in our innovation and product development projects and is responsible to give advice, support and assess better, safe and environmentally sound products for menstruation use, for incontinence management and for baby diapers. The role is further responsible to actively build, develop, maintain and defend product safety procedures, positions and information for internal and external use.

The position will preferably be based in our office in Gothenburg, Sweden, alternatively in Germany (Hamburg, Mannheim or Munich) and reports to the Product Safety Manager, based in Gothenburg.

What You Will Do

• Represent the textile-based, re-usable absorbent underwear product segment as product safety and regulatory affairs specialist and advisor to activities, projects and networks within Essity.
• Provide product safety support, procedures, guidelines and requirements to the organization.
• Provide material science, chemistry and biobased material knowledge to the organization.
• Collaborate with both internal (e.g. R&D, Business Units, Procurement, Sustainability, Public Affairs) and external stake holders (e.g. customers and NGO:s).
• Perform risk assessments and/or supporting toxicological evaluations in connection with collecting and evaluating supplier data, external certificates and coordinating tests and analysis.
• Lead internally the development of how product safety is ensured together with the regulatory evolution in the different markets globally.
• Support innovation teams and procurement by steering suppliers towards the expected safety standards.
• Be the expert resource on product safety questions new innovation materials in products for internal or external stakeholders.
• Train the organization in product safety for new materials
• Be updated on market competition as well as external trends that influence our goals and the product safety of the products.
• Monitor and create awareness on present and upcoming material product safety directives and legislation.
• Drive and/or proactively participate in internal and external competence transfers and networks.

Who You Are

• University degree (B.Sc, M.Sc. or PhD or similar) with focus on materials' and chemicals' properties.
• Good knowledge in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science and production and biobased materials through your studies or through work experience.
• Extensive experience in a product safety-relevant position, either in the industry, in a testing institute or at the university.
• Knowledge how to convert chemical legislation and material requirements into requirements for products for hygiene and healthcare use and consumer products.
• Ideally, but not a prerequisite, you have knowledge and bring experience from working with fast-moving consumer products, combined with an angle of introducing new innovative materials.
