Azure Cosmos DB is Microsoft's next generation globally distributed, massively scalable, multi-model cloud database service. It is designed to enable developers to build planet-scale applications. Azure Cosmos DB is one of the fastest growing Azure services. This role provides a lot of scope for impact, given the high visibility problems the team is solving.

The position touches across multiple t echnologies within Cosmos DB. You will be primarily responsible for contributing to PostgreSQL High Availability (HA) solutions, such as Patroni, and enabling those solutions across different environments. You will also work closely on extending relational database technologies such as Citus and PostgreSQL.

We are looking for a highly motivated and self-driven senior engineer who is passionate about distributed systems, cloud-native technologies, and open-source projects, such as PostgreSQL. In this role, the candidate is expected to have strong customer passion and demonstrate the drive to take initiative and drive big goals. The role also comes with an opportunity to mentor junior members of the team.
Responsibilities:

• Develop a deep and broad understanding of the product
• Validate and test design assumptions by building proof of concepts
• Drive impactful and complex features from inception to launch through design, implementation, and collaboration
• Address pain points in the product and improve product quality
• Have the flexibility, adaptability, willingness to learn various Azure products and open-source technologies, such as PostgreSQL

Qualifications:

Basic Qualification:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Mathematics or Physics or technical discipline or equivalent industry engineering experience
• Software engineering experience
• Ability to work and communicate effectively across disciplines and teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with PostgreSQL High Availability (HA) solutions, such as Patroni
• Experience with PostgreSQL internals, including understanding of standby servers, streaming replication, replication slots, and their operational properties
• In-depth understanding of distributed systems, networking, and/or operating systems internals
• Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms
• Proven design skills
• Entrepreneurial spirit - Ability to start, execute, finish, and own the feature while maintaining a high-quality bar
• Solve problems through collaborative work within teams and by always leading with deep passion and empathy for customers
