GPS is a sales organization accountable for the commercial partner business at Microsoft.
Responsibilities:
Cloud Solution Architects (CSAs) play a critical role in working with partners to provide deep technical support through solution build and first mile customer engagements such as Proof of Concepts, Architectural Design Sessions (ADS), and Hackathons. The CSAs build relationships with partner technical and development resources, designing and architecting new solutions based on Microsoft's cloud platform and technologies. They deliver value via a portfolio of service delivery engagements optimized to accelerate partner solution builds and first mile customer wins and stand out as a Technology expert due to deep solutions knowledge. They can go toe-to-toe with Microsoft engineering teams and blackbelts often surfacing product issues, providing feedback and insights that accelerate fixes and updates.
Key areas of responsibility - WHAT CSAs do:
- Understanding Partner Technical Environment. Identifies and evaluates industry trends, and jointly develops technical enablement plan with partner. Maintains technical skills and knowledge of market trends, opportunities, and competitive insights.
- Architecture Design & Deployment. Champions an existing architecture approach, synthesizes data about partner business, applies broad technical, industry, and enterprise knowledge, anticipates technical blockers and adapts methodology to minimize risks.
- Practice Development. Connects gaps and patterns across business and technology areas, and drives changes and improvements to existing intellectual property, technologies, and/or processes that enable solutions.
- Trusted Advisor. Develops and expands existing impactful relationships; creates and sustains constructive tension and trust with partner and leads the adoption of Microsoft architecture technologies.
- Thought Leadership. Leads virtual teams around technologies and partner challenges, participates in external architect community events and shares learnings with internal team; demonstrates deep industry knowledge and drives recognition for Microsoft solutions .
- Solution/Offer/Practice Development. Leads execution of architectural engagements, such as Technical Briefings, Proof of Concepts, Architectural Design Sessions, and Hackathons with the goal of defining and bringing new solutions/offers/practice to market.
- Skilling and Best Practice Sharing. Collaborates with Microsoft's Engineering and Global Black Belt teams on specific skill requirements for partners and the sharing of best practices; Lead and/or contribute to the delivery of workshops, bootcamps, and trainings necessary to build the technical skills and expertise of partners.
- Technical Events & Community Contribution. Attends Digital Transformation/Technology conferences such as Build. Participate in technical panels and user groups, provide insights, and contributes work that is shared across communities.
Understanding Customer/Partner Technical Environment
- Anticipates and contributes to new industry trends (customer industry verticals, information technology [IT] industry) and gathers customer/partner technical insights to position the organization to deliver architectures that account for changing landscapes and key priorities. Leverages insights to influence long-term technology strategy and influences others to focus and adapt business models, plans, and solutions to key insights.
- Acts as the voice of the customer (VOC)/partner by championing feedback around technical capabilities, gaps, blockers, and insights and drives the resolution of existing items. represents the customer/partner to internal teams (e.g., Engineering) and mentors peers on best practices around internal resource usage. contributes to Microsoft-centric operations and cadences to align with customer feedback. Uses broad patterns of feedback to develop strategic and actionable insights and presents a compelling business case to program managers that influence product roadmaps and decision making.
Architecture Design and Deployment
- Leverages and champions an existing architecture approach to achieve Microsoft's agreed commitments to the customer/partner. Proposes and develops new solutions to scale across multiple customers/partners and markets while demonstrating the business case and presenting alternative scenarios.
- Uncovers, aggregates, and synthesizes data about customer/partner business, complex technical requirements and issues (e.g., involving great length or tenacity to resolve), and various technical strategies being proposed. addresses them with win-win technical architecture(s), and demonstrates and proves the capability and business value of those solutions through design collaboration sessions with the customer/partner.
- Applies mastery of technical, industry, and enterprise knowledge across multiple, large architecture projects to meet strategic and tactical business and information technology (IT) requirements and resolve identified organizational constraints. drives efforts to shape and enhance customers' requirements.
- Oversees large customer/partner projects that implement technical architectures to enable a breadth of highly advanced and complex solutions. Provides thought leadership for technical architecture design and supports/drives the customer/partner throughout pre-sales and/or implementation.
- Anticipates and proactively creates a workaround strategy to circumvent complex or escalated technical blockers (e.g., changing configurations, sample coding and organizational constraints through regular technical reviews and check ins to accelerate architecture implementations. Anticipates and routes non-technical issues for removal by appropriate party.
- Anticipates and manages business and technical risks, and outlines methodology and governance principles and practices for the broader organization that allows others to minimize risks (e.g. Well-Architected Framework, Enterprise Scale Landing Zone, Cloud Adoption Framework). Defines customer/partner conditions of success, adheres to quality assurance, and calculates risks whilst designing and/or delivering solutions.
Practice Development
- Anticipates and addresses organization- and industry-wide gaps, patterns, and needs, and drives changes and improvements to existing intellectual property (IP), technologies, and/or processes to scale across global customer businesses and markets. Drives sales and consumption, as well as IP re-use and best practice sharing, through others. leads the development and modifications to the company stock of structured frameworks and methodologies.
Trusted Advisor
- Develops and expands existing impactful relationships with customer and partner architects, C-level technical decision makers (TDMs), and business stakeholders for large and high-impact customers/partners (to the extent that the customer/partner will call for consultation without being prompted). Provides direction to TDMs and builds the bridge between TDMs and business decision makers (BDMs).
- Creates and sustains constructive tension and trust with customers/partners by respectfully challenging their decisions and/or areas where they might do more. Builds on their network and industry experience to connect customers/partners with ideas, people, and resources to support their success. Leads the customer Cloud Consumption and Industry journey as a partnership with Microsoft.
- Leads the adoption of Microsoft technologies based on insight to all major customer/partner projects and analysis/differentiation of Microsoft and competitor products in complex and high-risk scenarios to influence the industry-wide direction for specific architecture(s).
Thought Leadership
- Leads the direction that internal team members and stakeholders take with customers by sharing ideas, insight, and strategic, technical input across boundaries, and actively pursues opportunities that grow impact and capabilities of the broader organization. Provides thought leadership by sharing deep insight and driving critical decisions that impact Microsoft and the industry. Acts as a mentor to multiple peers and leads one or more initiatives/teams.
- Initiates and drives external architect community events (e.g., conferences, seminars, technical meetups, Webcasts, blogs, hackathons). acts a mentor to junior colleagues by educating them on technical and non-technical concepts and sharing best practices. Serves as an industry-leading expert and drives recognition for Microsoft solutions through presentations and engagements with external audiences and publishing white papers around key technical topics and/or architecture design templates.
Customer Usage
- Leads architecture design, resiliency reviews, and technical optimization across multiple customers' entire application portfolios, resulting in production deployment application and increased customer business value. Qualifications:
- 6-10+ years of success in consultative/complex technical sales, technology solutions/practice development, architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of highly distributed applications
- Understanding Partner Technical Environment: Adept at gathering partner insights and mapping architecture and digital transformation solutions to partner business outcomes. Deep understanding of digital transformation business drivers, cloud platforms, emerging computing trends and their impact on partner practice building opportunities.
- Architecture Design & Deployment: Skilled at proposing and developing high-value solutions to scale across multiple partners while demonstrating the business case and presenting alternative scenarios in collaboration with the partner, meeting business and IT requirements and constraints. Experience in enabling a breadth of highly advanced solutions using enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, migrations and technology management that support the partner throughout pre-sales and/or implementation, resolving blockers and accelerating consumption while minimizing business and technical risks.
- Practice Development: Skilled in driving sales and consumption, developing and contributing to the company stock of structured frameworks and methodologies. Experience and understanding of large-scale application portfolios in enterprise-wide environments (including migration of on-premise workloads to the cloud).
- Trusted Advisor: Skillfully provides direction to technical decision-makers (TDMs) and builds the bridge between TDMs and business decision-makers (BDMs). Knows when to challenge partner decision and/or areas where they might do more and encourages alternative architectures and approaches.
- Thought Leadership: Ability to share strong insights, and strategic, technical input with technical teams and internal communities; Experience in managing various stakeholder relationships to get consensus on solution/projects; ability to solve Partner problems through cloud technologies, leveraging internal and/or external resources.
3-5+ years ' experience in the following technologies:
- Cloud application development solutions (e.g., PaaS, Serverless, API Management);
- Cloud application design, software architecture and practices; (design/development/deployment, Agile, SCRUM, ALM).
- Continuous integration technologies (e.g., Jenkins, Spinnaker, Azure DevOps, Chef, Puppet).
- Container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry);
- Experience with scalable architectures using Azure App Service, API management, serverless technologies, container orchestration (e.g. Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry etc.), API management, microservice frameworks etc.
- One or more of the following programming languages: C++, C#, Java, Node.js, JSON, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, Pig/Hive;
- Experience using integrated development environments (e.g., Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Eclipse, XCode, WebSphere) targeting Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, public clouds (i.e., Azure, AWS);
- Infrastructure Technologies (e.g., Compute, Storage, Networking, etc.), Migration Techniques, and Resiliency
Additionally, good experience (2+ years) in Application Security, GitHub, Databases
- Relationship Building: Proven track record of building deep sales relationships with CXOs and practice building executives in highly strategic ISV (Independent Software Vendor), MSP (Managed Service Provider), and SI (System Integrator) partner types.
- Collaboration: Acknowledged for driving decisions collaboratively, resolving conflicts and ensuring follow through with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Communication: Ability to orchestrate, lead, and influence virtual teams. Strong presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences at different levels of organizations.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Certification in one of the following technologies preferred: Cloud, mobile, web application development, cloud-native application architecture ( i.e. containers, microservices, API management), modern software development techniques like DevOps and CI/CD tool chains ( i.e. Jenkins, Spinnaker, Azure developer services, GitHub) and container orchestration systems ( i.e. Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry, Azure)
