Scope

Master thesis, 2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each

Background

Axis Communications collects anonymized diagnostics data from internal IoT devices as well as selected consenting external IoT devices. Data includes important attributes such as device uptime, temperature and system load. The diagnostics data is important for Axis ability to evaluate and improve product reliability and to guide development of future products.

However, there are millions more devices used by various users globally from which data is not collected, potentially leading to large bias in the collected data and resulting insights. This project aims to develop statistical methods to collate the collected data, adjust for any bias in the collection process, and provide suitable summary findings from the resulting data. A key component of the project will be the students' ability to use modern statistical methods to explore, understand and make sense of a very large and rich dataset.

Who are you?

For this thesis proposal we target students that have an interest in data science and using modern statistical methods to convert large swaths of data into valuable insights. Most likely, you are studying a Master's program in Mathematical Statistics, Automatic Control, Financial Modelling, or similar. You are interested in using your creativity in combination with a modern statistical toolbox to answer important business questions. Preferably, you live in, or near, Lund. The work will be done at Axis HQ in Lund.
