Beskrivning

Scania's R&D department is transforming to become part of TRATON Group R&D. TRATON is a group of strong brands with a shared mission: transforming transportation together to create the future of sustainable transport solutions. Within TRATON, we include MAN, Scania, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, and International. As part of a global team of industry experts, you get to think bigger, experience more, and reach further. Together, we have the power to transform transportation.

Our values - customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste - are at the heart of everything we do.

Role Summary

Electrification is a key part of the transformation, and the development of the new electric drive line with energy storage, charging, inverters, electric motors and not least electronics are a crucial part of the electrification effort.

Materials Technology's goals with respect to electrification are to provide industry-leading expertise in the materials used to develop the different components and interfaces to our internal customers spanning the complete product development cycle, from basic research to ensuring quality of vehicles in service.

This PhD project will contribute to the development of next generation electrical power contacts, and the development of test methodology to be able to predict the long-term behaviour of these contacts. An important part will be characterization of mechanical as well as electrical performance of different contact concepts. A combination of experimental work and modelling will be used to optimize the contacts. The results of the project are expected to be published in scientific journals and presented at national and international conferences.

You will be employed by Traton, while the academic position at KTH will provide the opportunity for professional development through studies towards a PhD degree. The goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree. You will work on research projects within Traton, together with suppliers and manufacturers, universities and research institutes.

The work will be done in close collaboration with KTH, Division of Electric Power and Energy Systems and Swerim. The main supervisor will be Professor Hans-Peter Nee and the co-supervisors Therese Källgren, Traton. The main workplace will be at Scania in Södertälje.

Who You Are

We place a high value on personal drive, good communication and a team spirit. As a PhD student you are expected to work independently and challenge yourself and others as well as pushing the research frontier forward.

  • The successful candidate should have a Master's degree or equivalent in materials science and engineering, materials, technical physics or a related field.
  • You must be familiar with basics of metal materials characterization techniques, e.g., electron microscopy, mechanical and electrical testing.
  • The candidate should have a demonstrated record of strong analytical skills, be well-organised and able to independently plan and execute tasks.
  • You must be able to perform practical hands-on experiments.
  • The candidate should have good communication skills, both in written and spoken English.

Meritorious:

  • Good communication skills, both in written and spoken Swedish.

Characteristics such as initiative and good cooperation skills are necessary. You are dedicated, curious, interested and driven to develop new ideas and deliver results. You thrive working in teams and are inspired by a creative climate surrounded by highly competent colleagues. You are customer oriented and outwardly can represent Materials Technology internally at TRATON and externally towards universities, institutes and companies in project collaborations.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds - your unique experience and perspectives is valuable to us.
